Uwe Albert: Die Bahnpost in Deutsch-S\u00fcdwestafrika 1899 – 1903<\/strong>.<\/p>\nIm Dezember 2018 erscheint \/ Gerade erschienen ist die erste umfassende Darstellung zur Bahnpost in S\u00fcdwestafrika als Band 8 unserer Reihe \u201eSchriften zur deutschen Kolonialphilatelie und Kolonialgeschichte\u201c. Ausf\u00fchrlich werden der Bau der Staatsbahn Swakopmund – Windhoek, der Bahnbetrieb und die Bedingungen geschildert, unter denen sich die Post des neuen Verkehrsmittels bediente. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Registrierung der Belege. Insgesamt konnten 228 Ganzst\u00fccke und Briefst\u00fccke mit handschriftlichen Entwertungen der Bahnstationen erfasst werden, die fast alle farbig abgebildet sind, sowie 189 Ganzst\u00fccke und Briefst\u00fccke mit Bahnpoststempeln, davon 61 in Abbildung. Das Buch sondert nur vorget\u00e4uschte handschriftliche Entwertungen aus, gibt Bewertungen f\u00fcr die einzelnen Stationen an und ist mit 33 Bahnfotos illustriert, \u00fcberwiegend aus der Sammlung des Autors, der 2016 schon den Fotoband \u201eDamals und Heute. Auf den Spuren der Eisenbahnen in Deutsch-S\u00fcdwestafrika\u201c ver\u00f6ffentlicht hat.<\/p>\n

Nach einer kurzen geschichtlichen Einf\u00fchrung, die auch Einblick in die Verh\u00e4ltnisse vor Ort bei der \u00dcbernahme von Spanien gibt, haben sich die Autoren (alle drei Pr\u00fcfer f\u00fcr Deutsche Kolonien im Bund Philatelistischer Pr\u00fcfer e.V.) neben den Briefmarken, Ganzsachen und ihren Abstempelungen vor allem der Stempelproblematik des Stempels von Saipan aus Fritzscher Produktion angenommen. So sind tabellarisch alle den Autoren bis heute bekannten Stempeldaten auf der Aufdruckausgabe der Marianen<\/span> aufgef\u00fchrt und eingeordnet, so dass der Sammler wei\u00df, zu welcher Sorte “sein” Abschlag geh\u00f6rt. Diese Tabelle ist wesentlich umfangreicher als die bisherigen Auflistungen von Friedemann oder Einfeldt und r\u00e4umt mit Legenden und Irrt\u00fcmern auf. Schlie\u00dflich befasst sich das Buch auch mit der See- und Marineschiffspost sowie der Zeit um den Ausbruch des ersten Weltkrieges und den letzten Postabg\u00e4ngen von Saipan. Das Buch ist mit vielen Abbildungen, vor allem auch von seltenen Bedarfsbelegen, versehen, die den Text veranschaulichen. M\u00f6rbel: Die Markenheftchen der Deutschen Kolonien<\/strong>.<\/p>\nEs ist mehr als 30 Jahre her, dass \u00fcber die Markenheftchen der Deutschen Kolonien eine umfassende Darstellung erschienen ist. Deshalb ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Herr Dr. Friedrich M\u00f6rbel nun eine neue Bestandsaufnahme vorlegt, die es allerdings in sich hat.<\/p>\n
Nicht nur mit zahlreichen Unstimmigkeiten und Fehlern r\u00e4umt der Autor auf, sondern er belegt auch anhand umfangreicher Recherchen in den Akten des Bundesarchivs mit exakten Produktionsdaten und -mengen, wie selten die ersten Auflagen sind und wann sie die drei Kolonien Deutsch-S\u00fcdwestafrika, Deutsch-Ostafrika und Kamerun erreichten. Er stellt ausf\u00fchrlich dar, auf welche Weise die Germania-Heftchen produziert wurden, was sich auf die Kolonialheftchen \u00fcbertragen l\u00e4sst und manche Spekulation \u00fcberfl\u00fcssig macht, und bildet s\u00e4mtliche Markenheftchen mit Heftchenbl\u00e4ttern, Zusammendrucken und Zwischenlagen sowie auch die Vorlageheftchen ab. Zudem analysiert M\u00f6rbel die Angebote und Verk\u00e4ufe der letzten 20 Jahre und gibt einen \u00dcberblick \u00fcber das Marktgeschehen. Hieraus zeigt sich, dass es manches St\u00fcck, das im Michel bewertet wird, gar nicht gibt, Bewertungsrelationen nicht stimmen und einige Daten zu korrigieren sind. Aber der Autor widmet sich auch den F\u00e4lschungen, vor allem Verf\u00e4lschungen von Markenheftchen und belegt, dass auch die Experten nicht immer sattelfest waren.<\/p>\n
Im folgenden Katalogteil werden alle Markenheftchen, Heftchenbl\u00e4tter, Zusammendrucke und Besonderheiten aufgelistet und bewertet, so dass ein v\u00f6llig neues Bild vom Umfang des Materials, der Verf\u00fcgbarkeit und Seltenheitsrelation entsteht. Fr\u00fcheste Abstemplungsdaten und alle bekannten Belege werden hierbei abgebildet. Abschlie\u00dfend gew\u00e4hrt der Autor Einblicke in den Produktionsprozess, indem er aus den Akten die wesentlichen Abl\u00e4ufe der Produktion der Heftchen festh\u00e4lt.<\/p>\n
Das Buch ist ein Schatz, der mit vielen alten Z\u00f6pfen aufr\u00e4umt. Als Handbuch der Markenheftchen wird der Band 10 der Schriftenreihe der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Sammler Deutscher Kolonialpostwertzeichen e.V. \u00a0das Standardwerk sein, an dem auch der Michel-Katalog nicht vorbeikommen wird. Es ist durchweg farbig gedruckt, wo es m\u00f6glich war, 120 Seiten stark und hat einen hochwertigen Softcovereinband. <\/p>\n

The Post Offices and Postal Agencies in German East Africa<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\nThere is already extensive literature on the postal history of German East Africa, including works by Albert Friedemann and Heinrich Br\u00f6nnle. The regularly updated postmark catalogue of the ARGE Kolonialpostwertmarken contains the most important information, supplemented by the catalogue of inscription slips by Ernst Einfeldt as well as special literature, for example on the DOA war post by Reinhold Siebentritt. However, many of these older books from the 1920s are out of print or only available as digital copies and\/or reprints with naturally poor quality illustrations. The report booklets of the working group are accessible online, but the issues from 1948 onwards are still black and white until the 1990s and are also of poorer image quality than with today’s technology. For these reasons, the idea for a new book was born, which bundles all available information from the older works. In the last 10-20 years, many new insights have been gained, to which even Heinrich Br\u00f6nnle had no access, although he himself lived and worked in German East Africa for a long time. This book presents all this old and new knowledge about the post offices in DOA \u2013 a so-called “review” as the scientist would say. It shows the postmarks of the postal institutions and their special features, determines the routes and transit times as well as their changes, and also contains historical and geographical information on cities and towns with postal agencies, supported by visual material. In addition, scans of letters, cards, parcel cards and other forms are included, which document the routing routes, transit times and tariffs, whereby the tariffs are only touched upon (see the books by Michael J\u00e4schke-Lantelme). The scans are also intended to give an impression of what material is still available today in terms of collectible material. The author has also tried to collect the names of the postal agents and full-time postal workers in DOA and to document their places of employment. The aim is to make the “status quo” accessible to all interested parties after more than 100 years of research. However, the book cannot replace the stamp catalogue of the ARGE, but only supplement it \u2013 for example, no market prices for the cancellations are mentioned here.<\/p>\n

Social Philately: People in German East Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\nThis book is originally based on a purely postal history collection of German East Africa. Later, the author of the book became infected with social philately and began to examine his collection for senders and addressees. Soon it was possible to find mail from people relevant to contemporary history, which increased the motivation to continue researching considerably.<\/p>\n
In this context, the question arose as to whether and how philatelically collected items can be used as a historical source. That certainly depends on whether there is text on the collected cards or letters that can provide information about the sender, his thoughts and actions, his motivation or his worries and needs. For example, letters without a sender and text are unusable from a socio-historical point of view, although they can be valuable in terms of postal history. On the other hand, pieces that are completely worthless in terms of postal history can be tremendously important for social philately. In short, the surprising result of years of research was that 70% of the author’s collection could be attributed to persons and existing texts could be analyzed. These people could be classified in their social position, from natives to governors, thus creating a picture of colonial society in East Africa, which is presented in this book.<\/p>\n

Der Text ist gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils zweisprachig auf Deutsch und Englisch. Die s\u00fcdafrikanische Besatzungsmacht hat den Postverkehr im verwalteten Gebiet fast durchgehend aufrechterhalten. Dabei bediente man sich der vorhandenen postalischen Infrastruktur, aptierte deutsche Stempel und nutzte auch deutsche Formulare. Der Briefverkehr unterlag der Zensur. Die Auflistung der gro\u00dfen Anzahl der dabei verwendeten Zensurstempeln (jeweils Abbildung mit H\u00e4ufigkeitsangabe) sowie die Bewertung der Briefverschlusszettel mit den bisher bekanntgewordenen Verwendungszeiten bilden den ersten Teil des Buches. Ausf\u00fchrlich wird dann der zivile Postverkehr mit dem Ausland, insbesondere mit Deutschland behandelt. Etwa 100 Seiten umfasst dieDSWA betreffende Kriegsgefangenenpost aus und in die Internierungslager mit denVerwendungszeiten ihrer Stempel sowie deren Bewertung. Gefangenenlisten und Belegabbildungen geben dazu ein umfassendes Bild eines Sammelgebietes, in dem fast alle Belege deutschsprachigsind. Das Werk ist eine passende Erg\u00e4nzung zu dem 2016 von den gleichen Autoren erschienen Katalog der aptierten deutschen Stempel in S\u00fcdwestafrika ab 1915.208 Seiten in 17 x 25 cm; beschichtetes Softcover; hochwertige Fadenbindung.<\/p>\n
